Bruneck sits at 835m above sea level and is in the middle of a wide valley basin, framed by high mountains: to the north, the Ahrn Valley, with its glaciers from the Zillertaler Alps, borders the mediaeval town, while to the south sits the Gader Valley with its Dolomite peaks.
